Every director often adds his or her own unique touch to their movies...
be it perhaps a certain scripted theme whatever, every director does it...
M. Night had his crazy wtf plot twists at the end of every movie, Tarentino did his whole "no bullshit/inyourface" jizz of the real world at its most horrid best. Scorsese managed to bring his gangster themed ideas into the silver screen & Spielberg made every movie seemed like it was a great tale told from a giant storybook in the sky~
its these little personal touches that the directors incorporate in their films which make it so remarkable in their own independent way~ it may not seem as obvious at first, but as u start following their productions, u'd slowly come to see a pattern emerging.
its hard to explain. Afterall, im not at all profound in elaborating creativity at its most displayed nor is it easy describing how it feels like after watching any one of their extraordinary films....
so i won't...
i'd leave it to u to find out for yourselves... to watch, and experience it the same way i have. i doubt our reactions or opinions would be the same but who cares really...
just enjoy it~
should u choose to accept or reject the statement it made is ur own prerogative... its just a figment of reality casted into a fictional tale of what is or was, has been or will be~ or just a tale bout dragons and elves~
thats just my take on it~
wad about yours?

Klaatu Barradda Nikto~
i caught Watchmen again for the second time last night, it still gave me the same satisfaction from when i watched it the first time. fkin love that movie~
i've been on the hunt for old school cult classics like "Pulp Fiction" & "Dog Day Afternoon". After watching the 1981 Evil Dead trilogy, there was a sudden appeal to watch all these gritty films.
a couple on the list are:
-Reservoir Dogs
-The Usual Suspects
-American History X
-Donnie Darko
-Requiem For A Dream
-Dead Poet Society
-Casablanca
just to name a few...
a couple of them were actually nominated to be the best movies of all time. i plan to validate that claim personally & its kinda fun too, i feel like a professional film critic going round putting my own stake on what's hot n what's not~
i recently caught The International at the new theater down at the sparkly building at Bugis, Iluma they call it.
dont be expecting an ending,(or a decent storyline for that matter) cause there isnt one. quiet the disappointment indeed.
a big WTF to Mr Clive Owen~
oh, another piece of advise...
if Jet li calls u & tells ur mother to go to the market to buy vegetables, ur fucked..
cause big brother is always right~
kaythanksbye~

epiphany deux~
the rain this morning was a great addition to my morning... even though it didn't contribute much to decreasing the weather's humidity, at least it cleared out the clouds washed away some in the bad juju of the land~
left for the base at 9am instead of the usual 6.30am cause of the shift changes... which was great, all work should begin at 9 if u ask me... people shouldn't even be allowed to wake up if the sun hasn't even done so yet....
Eden wore his sexy tee today to attempt to seduce me... i wasn't allured -_- i think he misses me too much since i havent been out training with them for the past few days.. the dynamic duo wasn't at its full potential~ he's gotta learn to quit given me too many gay vibes.. him and his crazy eyebrowns~
Sau Ming took me to the Cucumber patch at the other end of the fields... there werent much harvest left.. just the few~ we sat on the mountain of rock n stone n talked before shawn n jH came over with the metal rod of DOOM informing us of their capture of a mythical red cricket the size of yr palm...
towards the source we ran... an empty first aid kit was were the creature laid huddled at the corner of the red crossed container~ Expired packets of Bandages where scattered all over the ground, i retrieved one n attempted to mummify winson with one of the lengthy linen... however, it quickly backfired onto me n i soon found myself being jumped by my 10 other teammates...
the battle was on, 10 vs 1... the 1st few to lead the assault were jH & eden... then Rajan came from the back n subdued my arms... i thrashed about wildly using mostly momentum and their weights against them. i'd manage to escape for a while onli to be pounced by another... this went on for a good 5 mins... i fought a good fight but alas, there were just too many...
being finally pinned down by Sau Ming's face sleeper hold, i resisted to my last breath... the final invasion left me shoeless on one foot and tied from head to toe, bounded at arms n feet in the taut fabric...
had SM "bankai-ed" me then n there i would've hurled for sure lol... they carried me to the bench n timed my escape while setting the loose ends of the knots on fire as thought they were fuse wires~
as cruel as it sounds, i had a great day :)
the bloated frog found at the end was an addition too, but there wasn't much time for (toad)baseball then... so we digressed n headed back to flight~
weather's still a potential for contracting mad cow... i'd advise everyone to refrain from dawning any form of apparel as a precaution against heat injuries~
seriously thought, take off all your clothes...

epiphany~
the guy's plucked some baby cucumbers growing at the training grounds in the afternoon when i was back at the flight doing FOS duty...
at least thats wad it looked like...
a cucumber...
could've been a pickle or something else, i dunno~
sau ming tricked me into eating one of them... he said it was really sweet & everyone else had already tried it but me.
i took a bite... it tasted bitter, like a toad~
i threw the remainder into the trash n went to check out wad everyone else was doing...
the weather's horrid, it feels like ur having a fever constantly.... i believe further exposure to it will onli induce further risk of developing Mad Cow~
i do not wish to have mad cow...

before knowing~
gawd damn i luv "thinker" movies...
i love how they make u feel... like, at the end of it how u'd wonder if whether or not that particular event may ever occur in real life... and if it did, whether u'd react any differently... whether u'd still be the same person~
i luv how it can take u to places ur mind would never thought to imagine, different scenarios of past n present "could-haves" & "what-ifs"... it plays back n forth in ur mind even after the show... & still keeps u wondering days after~
i love the stimulation it gives me~
i love thinker movies... some ppl think it might be boring but i always feel smarter once i leave the theater after watching one~
sometimes the most scariest things that can be portrayed in movies are just detailed reflections of things that happen everyday in the real world~
which is why i guess i never did have a liking for the horror genre, cause even though ghosts n zombies can be scary, theres nothing more terrifying then whats already happening in the world today~
the "thinkers" & the "talkers"... i love movies like tat~
either have an elaborate, new & realistic concept for a movie or one with a great script with ideas and perspectives on life and love for me to wanna watch it in the big screen~
but hey, the occasional "shoot'em up" shows are still cool too :)

foiegras & xiao long baos
i wanna learn a language... a different language.
i wanna be able to speak it with the up most of fluency, be able to write, spell & read every intricate stroke & character of its literature...
be it French, or even Mandarin for that matter... especially Mandarin -_-
its hard living in singapore n not being able to communicate with more than 80% of the population. Its frustrating... and frankly, sometimes i wish i wasn't so "ang mor pai".
I'm Asian, i was born in Asia, n even though i don't really like the lifestyle here, its still part of my heritage n i wish to cultivate that which makes it uniquely oriental about living on the Eastern Continents...
i wanna embrace its culture and i want my kids to practice it as well... from my point of view, i think language makes up more than half of the lifestyle. The more Mandarin u speak, Mandarin more cheena your gonna be... & vice versa~
i tried speakin chinese for a day when i was still in poly once... drove everybody crazy... but i think my mandarin's improved reasonably after enlisting.. well sort of, maybe my friend would beg to differ~
be that as it may, i still wanna keep improving... im leavin alot of doors locked by not being able to converse in our country's "national language". But to be honest, i dont even know where to start...
Channel 8 perhaps?
or maybe at K-box...
imma start saying "wei?" instead of "Hello" when i pick up the phone next time... maybe it'll start a trend...
-peace-

magic beans~
when i was a kid i used to beg my mom to buy me a kinder Surprise everytime she went to the store... most of the time she wouldn't, sayin it was a waste of money n all tat.. but every 100 years or so when the planets aligned, she'd bring home for me an egg or 2, at which point i'll flip out at the sight of them...
the chocolate was shit of course, everyone knew tat... kids just wanted the toy, (regardless of how crappy it maybe...) and for a brief moment, existence as we knew it would come to a dramatic stand-still as we opened the tiny packaging to reveal the hidden treasure residing within...
i loved that shit as a kid~
then Ferrero decided to stop manufacturing them n crushed the hopes & dreams of millions of innocents all over the world... i always thought it was a great novelty gimmick, never did know why they canceled it~
and so. Kinder Surprise was no more, but a couple of years later, Kinder JOY was introduced to the world with a cheesy commercial with 2 brats and a mom who succeeds in providing them with both the sweet sugary goodness of chocolate and a delightful toy at the same time~

instead of having a fragile layer of white chocolate encase the mystery toy, its concept was now focuses on the egg's internal content, meaning the egg white and egg yolk (or egg yolks for tat matter) instead of a chocolaty shell, Kinder JOY consisted of a soft milky white chocolate & not 1, but 2 chocolate balls with hazel nut filling and waffle chips drizzled on it...

i have no idea why there's 2 egg yolks in the egg.. their onli gonna confuse the 2 year olds further... y couldnt they just put the 2 yolks together n make one giant yolk ball?
the toy i got was this.. weird, some 2cent rubber totem of a "see-no-evil" tiki head ment to be place on the top of a pencil for, i dunno... decoration purposes, like anyone bothers to decorate a Pencil -_-~
perhaps it's got unprecedented abilities which allows the user's drawings to come to life or some voo doo shit like tat... or maybe its just a random doo hicky in a chocolate egg~
i googled kinder JOY to see wad kinda prizes there were and it seemed some of them were pretty cool, like robots and jigsaw puzzles etc... i wondered y i got the see-no-evil tiki totem instead of the other cool stuff, maybe it was some kinda cosmic irony the gods of fate felt humorous to bestow upon me... or maybe im just too old for this shit~
annnnnyway... should've tossed the lil tiki head out but decided to keep it cause im cool tat way. brought it home n found a nice pen to stick it onto... gonna put it in my bag n carry it around with me, see if anything cool happens when i whip it out...
think imma call him fred~
fred the see-no-evil tiki totem of doom....
kay off to bed :p

now my bedroom's just one big Disco-tec~
im blastin Viva La Vida like theres no tomoro but quickly turned it down before i alerted ma mère~
but alas, she demanded i play some weird theme song from her korean drama show... n i was like.... "sacrebleu ma ma!!! i would sooner die than allow u to defile the sanctity of my ipod's musical preference!"
n she was like... "siao -_-" & continued with her paperwork~
i'd like to believe i have good taste in music...
i also like people having similar taste in music with me for some reason~ think im not the onli one tat applies to that logic...

Rorschach's Journal, 1985~

this movie could be summed up with two words, Sex & Violence... theres lots of both in there, maybe a lil more of one than the other... but i'd like to give Alan Moore a bit more recognition than just 2 words...
this movie is, to me, by far the most intellectual comic book movie ever produced... its not the typical "Good guy defeats bad guy, rescues girl & saves the world" routine, the storyline's one that far proceeds that of any orthodox script.
it's raw and gritty and delightfully gruesome in its own morbidly despondent way~ a confusing tale of Vigilantism at it's most corrupt... of Heros who cause more evil than they do justice...
Ultimately this is movie about theses few things...
its about the greater good... its about the malice men are capable of, be it for good or evil.... and how sometimes, it takes abit of suffering to bring people closer together~
maybe a nuclear holocaust isn't so bad afterall...
*curtains close~

a sunday in Feburary~
sometimes i can't believe wad an amazingly awesome vocation im in.... theres so many up & coming events involving our unit and the RSAF itself. its like havin a house on the beach, or workin in a chocolate factory :)
i had fun the other day at the AMS cohesion, not to mention the ultimate LEFT 4 DEAD session Shawn, Me & Tommy had after that.... although i must say, the weather these days are insanely calescent, almost cancerous, if u will....
my mother n sister left for Thailand two days ago...
i've never felt more at ease~
every morning i wake up feeling so liberated from them, it feels great~ having the freedom to do as i please n provide for my own needs, its rather up lifting, i do so thoroughly enjoy it :) not that i dont miss them cause i do...
but until they come back, im gonna enjoy every moment of their absence while i still can~
i've caught a number of movies in the past few weeks... just yesterday i saw "He's just not that into you" with Cassy. And last week, "Slumdog Millionaire" with Rick. Both of which were remarkable. so, i decided to list my very own personal top 10 movies, just for fun...
and here they are, by order of release:
1. The Breakfast Club (1985)
2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
3. Before Sunrise (1995) / Before Sunset(2004)
4. The Sixth Sense (1999)
5. Unbreakable (2000)
6. Gladiator (2000)
7. The Last Samurai (2003)
8. Collateral (2004)
9. The Lake House (2006)
10.The Departed (2006)
i left out Dark Knight & Transformers since they'd be obvious choices on anyone's Top 10 list. Yes, there are two M. Night Shyamalan films there... and for the record, my favourite Secret Agent is Jason Bourne NOT James Bond, be it the new aged Danial Craig films or the old ones...
he had way to many gizmos to begin with anyway~
in other affairs, a recent indepth conversation with the best friend at her place whilst lazing on her bed, stroking her lavished Persian Cat, gave me a sort of morbid hope that things would get better, that everything would eventually work itself out n the bigger picture would soon reveal its intentions to us...
i've never been one to believe in hope... but i believe in dreams and in some paradox, their both one in the same~
so i end of this post giving cheers to the everlasting friendships i've made and/or rekindled in these past few months... may they last till the age of my children & theirs to come...
Au revoir~

u know im right..~

Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865)
Born: Hardin County, Kentucky
Died: Washington, D.C.
He was the 16th president of the United States & served 4 years in office before he was shot by John Wilkes Booth in 1865, becoming the 1st president to have ever been assassinated.
During his term, he managed successfully lead the country through the Civil Wars and put an end to slavery.
Lincoln has been considered a martyr for the ideal of national unity and human rights. Now his face is on 5 dollar bill of the U.S. currency, and had the Lincoln Memorial built in his honor~
"Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves; and, under a just God, can not long retain it."

John F. Kennedy (May 29, 1917 – November 22, 1963)
Born: Brookline, Massachusetts
Died: Dallas, Texas at the age of 46
born John Fitzgerald "Jack" Kennedy, he was the 35th President of the United States, serving for 2 years before his assassination in 1963. Lee Harvey Oswald was charged with the crime but was murdered a mere two days later by Jack Ruby before he could even be put on trial.
Some officials speculate a possibility of a conspiracy, but wadever it may be, the event proved to be an important moment in U.S. history because of its impact on the nation and the ensuing political repercussions.
During that time of shaky ties with foreign countries, JFK managed to construct many Foreign Policies that proved effective in some way to promote bilateral ties between countries like Russia & Veitnam.
"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

Barack Obama (August 4, 1961 - the ends of time)

the 44th and current President of the United States. He's also the first African American president to be elected. Having been inaugurated recently on January 20, 2009, he ran an extraordinary campaign that emphasized on ending the Iraq War and providing universal health care to americans.
He promised "change" to the American public and displayed his ability to lead during the economic crisis of '08.
Many people are counting on him to solve many of the catastrophes that we are facing today. We trust that Yes, he can...
"There's not a liberal America and a conservative America. There's the United States of America. "

Phua Chu Kang aka. Kang kang
(September 25, 1997 – February 11, 2007 )
Occupation: CEO of PCK Pte Ltd
he was the poster boy for Singapore's Singlish speaking dialog, having kids going round saying "don't pray pray" thinkin its cool to sound like a fool.
first airing in 1996, he made multiple cameos in many local sitcoms and even appeared in an episode of The Amazing Race which have left many Singaporeans ridiculed under the eyes of foreigners watching from abroad..
in the 2003 SARs pandemic, he appeared in a 4min long music video called "The Sar-vivor Rap", again, putting us in an awkward position in the eyes of our neighbouring countries.
After 8 seasons and 167 episodes, the last season of the show was aired on October 31, 2006. But even after that, they managed to produce a Musical simply titled, "Phua Chu Kang - the Musical" which was a box office disaster n may have proved to be the death knell to any future Singaporean musical productions, proving he's neither any good in Singapore, Jorhor Baru or Batam for that matter...
this is who we have...
this is who we have to show for...
when great leaders and public figures of the world are called forth from every country all over the world to give hope and purpose in our dire times...
this is who will be choosen~
thus, causing me be bleed out from cardiac arrest having stabbed myself in the chest from the sheer embarrassment...
"Use ur blane"
i implore u....

up up & away~
yesterday was, i think, the 5th anniversary of the Airfield Maintenance Squadron. They held this cohesion day thing at Marina Square. everyone from all the various units came down, the head hunchos of all the 4 bases gave some speeches then we all went to play bowling and free video games at the arcade & bowling alley outside the cinema for like 2 hrs before headin to the buffet line..
having the entire arcade's games available to u for free is like, i would think, every 5 yr old kid's dream... u can just, start a game, fool around with it for a bit then just move over to the other one n not even give a shit if ur loosing or wadever... n u can never loose, just keep pressin the start button whenever the countdown timer to continue flashes on the screen... i don't even know how to explain the coolness of this situation~
this was probably the 6th or so event we've been to since we got posted to the Air Force... its a pretty good life over here, tats for sure~ the Major made it a point to have at least one get-together of all the squads every 2 mths.... talk about welfare ey? :)
after a prize givin ceremony and a couple more speeches, we watched Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and ate popcorn (both of which fully paid for of course) before callin it a day.
a couple of us cabbed over to Tommy's place to play some Mahjong and, if there was time to spare, perhaps a little Left4dead.... after all, the following day was a friday and it wasn't an Off day which, i thought kinda reframed us from havin too much fun...
it never ceases to amaze me how much i always seem to learn more bout the chinese culture... i've rarely hang out with cheena ppl, i hate it when they'd speak amongst themselves n i'd feel a lil lost, but they're cool ppl & i think i've picked up alot of the language along the way~
i had a great time, it was simple yet fun... i really enjoyed myself~
its simple things like havin a picnic at the beach or chillin at a friend's place tat conversations can be really engaging...
this morning was just dreadful to wake up to... but alas, today was RSAF Safety day, so there wasnt much to be done, which ment more time for hunting n gathering or shootin each other up in "Medal of Honor" on our PSPs...
we decided to use the free time to set up the fish tank we've been meaning to have in our room. the previous frog drowning/toad baseball matches have made certain discoveries... like how certain tree toads can bloat up to the size of a ping pong ball and become bouncy when threatened, and that there were a bunch of tiny baby guppies in the koi pond right outside just waiting to be caught.
Rajan & Winson lead the fishing expedition. Armed with net n' pail, they headed out n caught about 50 of the lil gups... we washed some rocks and harvested some of the pond's aquatic plants and viola, a habitat fit for Nemo himself~
it looked really great~
everyone was in awe of it :)
i dunno how we can still keep ourselves entertained like this everyday with our AVS escapades n not get in trouble...
we got released early today. got home at about 5-ish in the afternoon... pretty much just chilled at home watchin videos on youtube n stuff...
i found this video thats super funny...
he's no longer scared of the dentist, but he's terrified of the like, meaninglessness of life and stuff...
i never knew christian bale was such a hot head either... almost 3 mins of him screamin at some lighting guy? come on man, u were Bruce freakin Wayne... have some restraint man...
fuck it, he and i are done professionally~

starship trooper~
shawn and i found a frog today and sweeped it across the drain down into the canyons where it probably drowned or something in the milky waters of the canals right outside the base...
later in the day we murdered a snail with a rock and sacrificed 2 millipedes to the rain god... & it worked too, for a brief moment tat is, but onli a slight drizzle so training didn't cease.
a few of us explored the nearby area and found acouple of metal rods and a rusty hammer and started going round poking n prodding the bushes for snakes n insects alike... each time we found a cricket or an ants nest, we'd all start pounding & pelting it with sticks n rocks, taking our bottles n pouring water all over them... if all else failed, i'd come in with my "Hammer of Doom" n deal the killin blow~
that wasnt it, by the end of the day we caught n captured 4 big (not to mention hairy) ass spiders and contained them in a broken bottle we found at the scene then fed them to the fishes in the pond. None of the fishes actually ate them so we just drowned them instead..
it was cruel wad we did but damn i had so much fun... i would categorize this as "stupid stuff boys would do when bored and near vast vegetation". on normal curcumstances u'd never find us doing such blaten acts of animal cruelty. we're nice people after all~
i had a super amusing day today...
one of bug-killin n toad-drowning.....
don't judge me~

xing nian quai ler~
chinese new year's one of the most biggest celebrations in Asia i would say... although the sites aren't as dramatic as to those of xmas or new year's, the sounds are pretty noticeable. Almost everywhere i go they'd be playin those old school festive songs... even in the public bathrooms, like theres ever a need to hear something like That in there~
but i like chinese new year, the free money, the tons of food... its even an excuse for kids to gamble. i have fun just hangin out with my family & relatives. like i said, its a big deal~
although, i've never really acquired the taste for Steamboat, or Shark's Fin, or Abalone or any other exotic (& rather expensive) Asian delicacies for that matter, that's never stopped me from whippin up some chicken poppers or orderin Pizza on the side~ but its the time of the year where i'd put those habits aside n just join in with them and eat the unfamiliar cusines.
its a pleasant cultural change for me and sometimes rather educational.. i sometimes learn new words or random trivia bout the chinese culture that may not appeal to me that much but its still interesting to know since i am, afterall, beige to the skin~
this may all seem rather normal to any other person but for someone like me, whose youth till now's proficiency in the Mandarin language has failed to even obtain so much as a passing grade since my primary-hood. since then most of the friends i made had usually been of different ethnicity from me~
i never watched any of the hk dramas or the taiwanese game shows on tv.. therefore i never had any common topic to converse with the other beige kids at my school. almost half of my closest friends back then where non-chinese. Even today my best friend is Malay~
it was onli during tertiary that i started hangin out with the chinese kids, n that took some gettin used too. now that im in National Service, the singaporean chinese in me has never made such a notable appearance before. i still speak good english, cept now i have a better understanding for Singlish as well~
i order my own tea by telling the uncle, "teh-peng" instead of "iced-tea". for example~ a pretty retarded thing to even mention but for me, when i go out and when i say such things.. i notice it~
i like being chinese, even though i don't act like one most of the time~
after all the fishball noodles and xiao long baos... i like to just go back to having pizza and spagatti for lunch after all this is done :)

post script: did i get the title right?
